Open Question: A decade later, what do you think about Turn Ahead the Clock?

29 July 2010, 8:54 am

In 1999, MLB developed new futuristic jerseys for most teams (but not the Yankees, Rangers, Cubs, Blue Jays, Expos, Astros, Reds or Dodgers, and the Tigers backed out last minute) in a promotion called "Turn Ahead the Clock". The idea was to show what uniforms would look like at some point in the 21st Century. Well, here we are now at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st Century (or, according to "Seinfeld," the end of the first decade), and we are yet to see hardly any of changes predicted, except for the fact that Tampa Bay did shorten the team's name from "Devil Rays" to "Rays" (which was a lot of foresight in 1999, since the team had been created only the year before). Any thoughts on the "Turn Ahead the Clock" promotion? Are we ever really going to see uniforms like that? Which team had the best or the worst? Wasn't the sideways name on the back cool? Should MLB do it again? When exactly are the Mets moving to Mercury? http://www.jerseydatabase.com/blog.php?p=118... Read More »
